A fairy tale ending to Chris Wigger’s first game in charge of the Yachtsmen was cut short after two very late goals from the Motormen who came out victorious in the six pointer.
Elliot Pride started in goal for Wroxham; however there were two changes in the defence for the home side. Joshua Gray replaced injured Andy Howell and Lewis Sturman came in at centre back after starting at left back midweek. David Hinton and Stephen Taylor started in the centre midfield with Seamus Kelleher coming in on the left hand side of midfield whilst Jack Garrod kept his place on the right. Nathan Stone and Jamie Forshaw remained upfront for Wroxham who were looking to get there first win since half way through October.
The yachtsmen started off the better team, as they try to forget the disappointing loss to Kings Lynn town reserves midweek. Jack Garrod tried to create the first chance of the game, but his attempted cross was blocked on the right hand side before creating any danger. Wroxham then had their first sight of goal, Seamus Kelleher linked up with Nathan Stone on the left hand side, before Kelleher’s shot was saved down to the left of Callum Chafer in goal for the Motormen. Jack Garrod then tried an audacious effort from around 30 yards out, but failed to keep it on target as the ball was blasted over the bar.
Redbridge then had their first sight of goal 15 minutes in, a few good passes between the Motormen saw Billy Drake’s shot pulled wide to the left hand side of the goal. 3 minutes later the visitors found themselves a goal up. Reside Coxi Sebastfao showed everyone a piece of magic as the forward player fooled the Yachtsmen defenders with a few step overs before taking a touch and curling the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal. However 6 minutes later the home side equalised, Matt Halliday played a wonderful high through ball which found Nathan Stone who controlled the ball and stroked it into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.
10 minutes later Wroxham should have got another goal. Stephen Taylor found himself unmarked in the box as the ball came to him, the midfielder then passed it towards the goal, but a Redbridge defender got back and cleared off the line. The last chance of the first half fell to Jack Garrod on the left hand side, the midfielder tried to curl a cross into Nathan Stone but the ball was caught by Callum Chafer.
The start of the second half saw a very scrappy affair, as neither team could get in control of the game. However after 15 minutes gone of the second half Redbridge went 2-1 in front. A cross into the box saw a goal mouth scramble come off Elliot Pride and go into his own net. Pride then made a vital save to keep Wroxham in the game, as Joe gent’s cross was met by the head of Charlie Portway whose header was caught by Pride. Stephen Taylor 5 minutes later struck a shot low to the keepers left but was well saved and pushed away from danger.
With 25 minutes left Redbridge started to put the pressure on Wroxham, but a yachtsmen counter attack saw Nathan stone go past a Redbridge defender and cross into Jamie Forshaw from the right hand side. Forshaw then headed neatly into the left corner of the goal to draw back level. Astonishingly 1 minute later the home side took the lead, Jackson Ramm went past 2 Redbridge defenders with ease before crossing the ball into the near post. The cross was blocked and fell to Jack Garrod who placed into the bottom left corner before celebrating with the Yachtsmen supporters.
Nathan Stone very nearly put day light between themselves and the Motormen, as he brought the ball down tidily in the box before placing past Chafer but the referee judged his method of control as a hand ball. Seamus Kelleher was replaced by Daniel Foreman who dropped in at left back. Jack Garrod then had a fantastic chance to get a 2 goal cushion as a through ball from Jamie Forshaw allowed Garrod to be 1 on 1 with the Redbridge keeper but didn’t manage to keep the ball on target and the ball went past the right post.
In stoppage time at the end of the game, it looked as though the yachtsmen would claim their first win since October. However, a shot from the edge of the Wroxham box was well saved to the right of Pride but fell straight in the path of Sebastfao who pounced on the ball and put it into the goal to make it 3-3. The worst hadn’t yet come for Wroxham because 2 minutes later Charlie Portway was through on goal after a long ball from defence found the forward. The Redbridge forward then placed it past Elliot Pride and into the back of the net, which meant they went away from Trafford park with the 3 points in a 7 goal thriller.
