Forshaw at the double sees Yachtsmen triumph

Forshaw at the double sees Yachtsmen triumph

Adrian Gowling10 Mar 2016 - 20:33

A double from Jamie Forshaw and a Michael Sommerfield header were the clinchers as Wroxham got revenge over Haringey.

Having played and lost to Haringey only 10 days previously at Trafford Park, the Yachtsmen travelled to Tilbury to take on the home side.

With their Coles Park pitch still unfit for football action, the game was played out in front of a sparse crowd of only 22 hardy souls at Tilbury FC's ground.

It didn't take the Yachtsmen long to open the scoring. With Jackson Ramm back in the first team squad following his suspension, it didn't take long for the full-back to get into the swing of things. On this occasion , it was in the attacking third of the pitch. Ramm beat his man on the right before putting in a delightful cross which was powerfully met by the head of Michael Sommerfield. Sommerfield who had lost his marker powered home an unstoppable header. It looked like a great tactical move by Damian Hilton to play the tall defender up front as he has been utilised in a number of roles and positions this season.

Wroxham were looking bright in the early exchanges and it wasn't long before they had doubled their lead. The ball broke free in the centre of the pitch and Stephen Taylor picked it up and played an exquisite through-ball splitting the Boro defence into the path of Jamie Forshaw. The forward took a touch and with his left foot slid it through the keeper's legs and into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Wroxham had found their rhythm and were playing some delightful football. The third goal was a great team move which started from Elliot Pride in the goal. Having been played out of defence, the ball reached Jack Garrod who played the ball inside to Sommerfield. With some skill he played a perfectly weighted first time ball to Jamie Forshaw. The skill was not finished there though as Forshaw rolled back the years. Controlling the ball with his right foot, he flicked the ball with the outside of his left boot and a delightful chip over the keeper from the angle hit the back of the net to make it 3-0 before half-time.

It was obvious that the Haringey management would have some words with their side at half-time and they reacted by pulling a goal back in the second half. The Yachtsmen managed to stand firm and saw out the rest of the game to take Wroxham out of the drop zone and a further chance on Saturday to pull further clear as a struggling Witham Town are the visitors to Trafford Park.

Thanks to Michael Sommerfield and Jamie Forshaw for their assistance in compiling this report.
