Yachtsmen on their travels socket to the Motormen

Yachtsmen on their travels socket to the Motormen

Adrian Gowling11 Oct 2015 - 13:05

Wroxham's centre-back pairing were the goal-scoring heroes as Wroxham brought home the three points.

The Motormen couldn't catch the clinical Yachtsmen after 2 first half goals from Wroxham's centre-back pairing saw a comfortable win for the away side reports Tom Wardle.
The away fixture at Redbridge saw a number of alterations to the squad after the Yachtsmen’s failure to progress in the FA Trophy last time out. Charlie Norman and Danny Rust dropped to the bench with Matty Waters and Jordan Attree both out of the squad altogether. They made way for Jackson Ramm who returned away a suspension. Nathan Stone, Jordan King and Matt Halliday also all saw returns to the starting line-up.
Redbridge started the game the livelier side moving the ball well on the long grass, but they could only earn themselves half a chance within the first 5 minutes. Jordan Conelius saw his cross from the left of the box go high and wide over the Wroxham bar. The Yactsmen then started to find their feet, a wonderful passing move between Jackson Ramm and Jordan King down the right wasn’t capitalised on and rolled out for a Redbridge goal kick. Wroxham then very nearly found themselves through on goal after a mix up in the Redbridge defence. The ball fell for Danny Beaumont on the edge of the box, before Mark Parker in the Motormen's goal was quickly off his line and gathered before Beaumont had time to steady himself. After some sustained pressure from Wroxham, Redbridge had a chance to steal a lead on the counter attack. Daniel Jones’s fantastic run from deep saw a poor effort comfortably saved by Elliot Pride down to his left.
With just over 15 minutes gone at Oakside Jamie Forshaw found himself with a great opportunity to give the Yachtsmen the lead and score with a penalty. Nathan Stone’s weaving run through on goal resulted in him being brought down just before he could pull the trigger. Jamie Forshaw stepped up and blasted it to the left of the goal, but a fantastic save from Parker kept the scores level. However on 22 minutes, Wroxham finally found themselves a goal up. A Jack Guyton corner was played short to David Hinton to the right of the box, his cross was then met by Ollie Ebbage with a towering header into the top of the net from the edge of the 6 yard box to give the red of Wroxham a well-earned lead.

After 30 minutes, Redbridge saw a real chance to score. Michael Ogboin used some skill to find space, then tried to place it in the bottom left corner with Elliot Pride getting down well to his right to collect. On the 36th minute mark, Nathan Stone who was causing problems for the Redbridge defence, was brought down half way into the attacking half to earn a free kick in a promising position for the Yachtsmen. Jamie Forshaw’s free kick from the right was deflected by a Redbridge defender before Matt Halliday ghosted into the back post to tap home from close range and double their lead.

The first chance in the second half fell to Redbridge's Joe Gent down the left hand side with a powerful shot from a tight angle. Pride being pleased to see it hit the side netting without really troubling the 'keeper. After 20 minutes played in second half and no real intent from either side, Stephen Taylor’s cross was met by Nathan Stone on the edge of the box but the forward blasted over the bar. Redbridge then had a few half chances from free kicks and corners without causing too much trouble for the Wroxham defence. the main cuplrits being James Ogunleye and Charlie Parish who headed over from close range when they should have done better.

Jamie Forshaw had a chance to add another goal for the Yachtsmen but his free kick from the left hand side of the box was sent straight over the bar.
The 70th minute mark saw a magnificent challenge in the Wroxham penalty area from right back Jackson Ramm. Ramm slid in to claim the ball preventing Billy Drake getting through on goal. As the game entered additional time, Wroxham very nearly made it 3-0. Jamie Forshaw blocked a clearance from the Redbridge 'keeper as he tried to clear from the edge of his box. The ball smashed against Forshaw’s back before spinning towards the goal. Only a lump of mud prevented the ball from entering the net.

Overall the Yachtsmen didn’t play their best but after scoring 2 first half goals, they went on to win the game comfortably. Wroxham visit Dereham on Tuesday in what will be a big local derby boosted by this win. If Wroxham claim the 3 points, the Yachtsmen will sail above Dereham in the table with two games in hand .
