Magpies steal the spoils in Norfolk's Ryman League derby

Adrian Gowling30 Sep 2015 - 18:00

Dereham gained revenge for Wroxham's victory in the Norfolk Senior Cup. Bragging rights won't last long as we meet again in 2 weeks time.

Tom Wardle reports on the big local derby:

A Lightning Rhys Logan Inspired Dereham town to a well battled 2-0 win against the yachtsmen at a cold Trafford Park.

The Wroxham team saw 2 changes to the starting XI, jack Garrod, who scored the only goal on Saturday and Seamus Kelleher made way for Charlie Norman and Matt Waters. Kelleher was named on the bench alongside Bradley Spooner, who was making his senior debut and also Jordan Attree.

Dereham started well out of the blocks, Sam Borrer sent a through ball to on running Ryan crisp, but was stopped in his tracks by a magnificent tackle right back Jackson Ramm. The ball was then curled into the Wroxham penalty area by Dereham left back Frazer Blake-Tracey, Ryan Crisp met the ball in the air but headed the ball well wide of the right hand post.

With 10 minutes gone, Wroxham had slowly got back into the game after Dereham's frighting start, Matty Waters used some wonderful skill on the edge of the box before shooting with his weaker left foot, which saw a comfortable save from Will Viner down to his right. 5 minutes later a through ball from Danny Beaumont was hit to hard, but Nathan Stone was agonizingly close to reaching the ball before the Dereham keeper. After an exciting first 20 minutes, Dereham Town were on the counter attack after some sustained pressure from the yachtsmen, the ball fell to Dereham's Rhys Logan on the edge of the box but his shot was pulled well wide of the left hand post.

Wroxham then had a few good chances to take the lead. firstly, a wonderful dribble from the half way line saw David Hinton's shot blasted over on the edge of the box and being the first of three good chances in quick succession,1 minute later Jackson Ramm's cross from the right hand side was dummied by Nathan Stone, then the ball fell to the feet of Danny Beaumont who's shot was smashed straight at the keeper. will Viner then cleared up the pitch, but Elliot pride in the Wroxham goal collected the ball and was sent straight back up the other end. A header down by Danny Beaumont was met by Nathan Stone on the edge of the 6 yard box, but was unable to send the ball on target and scuffed his shot.

After 30 minutes Wroxham were looking the stronger team, but Dereham always looked dangerous on the break. However as Jamie Forshaw received the ball on the half way line no one could of predicted what he was going to do next. Forshaw pushed the ball out from his feet and smashed the ball from inside the semi-circle, before seeing his shot go frustratingly close of the right post, but was unable to make the Dereham keeper work.

On the 40th minute, a through ball behind the back of the yachtsmen's defense from Dereham's center midfielder Luke Tuttle was met by Ryan crisp who chipped Elliot pride in the Wroxham goal then rolled into the back of the net to give the local visitors the lead. Dereham then had a very late chance on the stroke of half time to try and double there tally, but Sam Borrer smashed wide from the penalty spot.

Straight away in the second half, Wroxham had a fantastic chance to make the scores level, Jamie Forshaw's free kick from 3- yards out was magnificently saved in the top right hand corner by Will Viner. However, in the 52nd minute, Elliot Pride brought Ryan crisp down in the box, which saw a penalty and a yellow card given to the Wroxham keeper. Luke Tuttle stepped up and sent Elliot pride the wrong way, placing the ball in the bottom right corner to double the lead fro the away side. Wroxham very nearly responded instantly, straight from kick off, a menacing weaving run from Nathan Stone down the left saw him cut inside onto his right foot and smash the ball to the right of the goal, before a magnificent save from will Viner, the ball then fell for Jamie Forshaw on the edge of the box, his shot was crisply struck and smashed against the inside of the right hand post and then cleared by Dereham. the 75th minute saw the first substitute for the yachtsmen, as Charlie Norman was replaced by Seamus kelleher. with 10 minutes left Dereham won a free kick in a promising position on the edge of the box. Luke Tuttle's strike was wonderfully saved by Elliot pride high up to his right. The final two substitutions for Wroxham came in the 82nd minute, waters and Beaumont were replaced by Jordan Attree and Bradley Spooner who was making his senior debut.

The only notable chance in the last ten minutes was from Nathan stone again, another weaving run in between two Dereham defender was sweetly struck but again smashed against the bar.

Overall, it was a disappointing and frustrating night for the yachtsmen, Dereham always looked lightning on the counter attack, however they were unlucky after seeing 3 shots hit the bar and some outstanding saves from Will Viner in the Dereham goal. One positive from the game s that Bradley Spooner settled into life very quickly and looked a very good young player.
