Yachtsmen win on the road again

The Yachtsmen made one change from the side the defeated Great Wakering Rovers 4-0 on Tuesday, with Danny Rust stepping in for the suspended Danny Self.

Kick off was delayed by 30 minutes as heavy traffic held up The Yachtsmen on their longest trip of the season, but it didn’t affect the away side as another early goal – something that has epitomised their season so far – saw them take the lead as Danny White connected with Christy Finch’s ball in to fire home on 11 minutes.

Finch then missed a golden opportunity four minutes later to double their lead but was unable to connect with Remy Gordon’s ball in, before the hosts restored parity just after the half hour mark, Austin Gacheru glancing in Kane Phillip’s cross into the far corner.

Nathan Stone was then in for the visitors as the game ticked towards half time, the striker beating the offside trap after 40 minutes but could only fire over from 18 yards.

With the scores level at the break, it was the home side who got the ball rolling quicker in the second half, Gacheru again the man in the right place at the right time to nod home a 46th minute free kick for 2-1.

Wroxham responded in kind, Jordan King finding his second goal is as many games to get Stewart Larter’s men back on level terms on 58 minutes, the midfielder nodding in at the back post from Finch’s ball in.

And Wroxham’s mercurial front-man then got in on the goal scoring action himself two minutes later to turn the game on its head, beating the offside trap to round goalkeeper Tom Wellham and knock into the empty net to preserve his side’s place in the Ryman North play off positions.
