Six match unbeaten run ends with heavy defeat

Six match unbeaten run ends with heavy defeat

Chris Green7 Sep 2014 - 11:26

The Yachtsmen’s six match unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt at The Arena when in form Brentwood sealed victory with a 5-1 win.

Wroxham opened the scoring through Christy Finch at which stage they were in the driving seat but then gave away an own goal from Matt Halliday. This resulted in the home side upping their game and scoring four more in the second half.
Following a delayed start because the referee felt there would be a colour clash, Wroxham were soon pressing forward. A Matt Halliday header was just over while a shot from outside the area by David Hinton was saved by the home ‘keeper at the second attempt. Then a shout for handball was waived away by the referee who awarded a corner.
Wroxham took the lead on 17 minutes when a cross by Jack Garrod (who was released by a lovely pass from Danny White), was well controlled by Christy Finch who converted equally well.
The lead was held for just seven minutes when when Halliday back headed a long ball into the box past Pride. This boosted the home side and they came into the game as Wroxham were put on the backfoot. Brentwood were playing with confidence but It was still nip n tuck as it was level going into the interval.

When the second half opened, Brentwood came straight out and attacked from the off. A chance fell for Jason Dobbs but the ball eventually sailed wide of the far post as Pride watched it out.

Brentwood took the lead in the 54th minute when a long ball by Alex Akrofi was just watched by the static Wroxham defence and former VCD striker Sherwin Stanley, finished off at the back post.

Wroxham then had a great chance to equalise almost immediately. A good knock down by Danny White found Remy Gordon in the 6yard box but he shot over when it looked easier to score. Minutes later Gordon had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside. A free kick by White was headed back by Halliday to Gordon who fired in a shot low past the keeper as the Yachtsmen tried to get back on terms.
But from a Wroxham free kick, Brentwood broke sharply and Hinton was forced to bring down Dobbs as he ran through on goal. A Yellow card for Hinton and the resulting free kick produced Brentwood's 3rd goal.Sam Bantick easily placed his shot to the right of the Wroxham wall. Pride was wrong footed as he took a step to his right and the ball was in the back of the net.
The 4th goal from Brentwood came from another long ball over the Wroxham defence and Bantick was able to easily lob the advancing Pride into the net.
Jordan Attree replaced Hinton as Wroxham tried to get something from the game. Unfortunately, it meant that the midfield was weakened as Brentwood were able to pass the ball around at will.
Wroxham did have 3 half chances as two shots from Attree and a White opportunity went begging.
Brentwood's fifth finished a poor day for the Yachtsmen in injury time as substitute Shad Ngandu shot across goal from the right which went in at the far post.

Wroxham will now need to pick themselves up for Tuesdays visit to Maldon & Tiptree although they still in 6th place.
