The Yachtsmen opened their account on ten minutes, Jack Garrod firing low past Chris Clark from Jamie Forshaw’s through ball.
Stewart Larter’s men were passing fluently and they doubled their tally with 32 minutes on the clock, Garrod the supplier to feed Christy Finch, who fired across the ‘keeper and off the post for 2-0.
Barkingside were a different animal in the second half as they dominated proceedings, Wroxham goalkeeper Elliot Pride producing a brilliant point blank save from Dan Jones to preserve the home side’s lead.
Richard Oxby fired just over from 25 yards and Calvin Poku headed over when free from six yards as the visitors searched in vain for a goal, before a marauding run from Ben Lewis set up Remy Gordon to seal the win in injury time.
Some may argue that the final score flattered The Yachtsmen - with Barkingside dominating much of the second half - but no-one will deny that Stewart Larter’s men deserved all three points with a good all-round display that sends the side to fifth in the table.
The Yachtsmen named a familiar side, with no changes from the one that defeated Great Yarmouth 4-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday.
The away side started physically - with a clear intent to use their height up top to their advantage – Steve Carvell volleying wide in the opening minute from a knock down, before Joe Ellul headed wide from a fifth minute free kick.
However, it didn’t take long for The Yachtsmen to pick up their opponent’s rhythm and they soon began finding space of their own.
Danny White fired a warning shot for the hosts, dinking a lovely ball over the Barkingside defence when allowed way too much space on nine minutes, only for the advancing Remy Gordon to be flagged offside.
It would not matter though as they were in 60 seconds later, Jack Garrod this time beating the offside trap to fire his side in front.
Jamie Forshaw was the supplier, threading a lovely ball through that just beat Barkingside left back Dan Callaway and fell into Garrod’s path, the right winger taking a touch before firing low into the bottom right corner for 1-0.
Barkingside goalkeeper Chris Clark then denied Wroxham a second goal barely a minute later as the home side pressed, Forshaw finding space to fire a blistering effort from 25 yards that Clark acrobatically tipped over.
The Yachtsmen were looking dangerous every time they attacked as Barkingside were struggling to cope with their numbers in the final third.
Forshaw dragged a couple long range efforts wide, while down the other end the best chances were coming from balls into the box, Lewis Francis heading just wide from a left wing cross on the half hour.
Wroxham were showing great resolve at the back whilst promising some good flair up top, and another neat passage of passing unlocked Barkingside again for Christy Finch to double their lead on 32 minutes.
Garrod this time became the supplier, threading a perfectly weighted ball through for Finch to collect, beating a narrow offside call to keep his calm and fire in across Clark, off the post and in.
The away side kept trying to impose their physical nature as the game meandered towards half time, but the Wroxham defence were strong to everything they threw at them and they kept their lead intact going into the break.
Barkingside came out of the blocks quick after the interval and tested Elliot Pride after 30 seconds, Matt Gulfer capitalising on some indecisiveness on the edge of the Wroxham box to fire in an effort that Pride tipped over.
The visitors were looking dangerous as the searched for a way back into the game, with Danny Rust and then Danny Self both producing superb blocks at the right time to keep them at bay.
Wroxham were struggling to keep the ball in Barkingside’s half and it was the visitors who were having all of the possession.
Dan Jones – who replaced Carvell at half time – was causing different problems for the Wroxham back four with his speed and his agile nature almost found a way back into the game for his side, only for Elliot Pride to produce an unbelievable point blank save.
A dinked ball in from Jason Fontaine on the hour found Jones tightly marked by Matt Halliday, the striker turning his man to fire in from six yards only to find Pride in the way, the ex-Gorleston shot stopped flying to his left to tip it round the post.
The away side were battering the Wroxham defence with balls in the box, the home side dealing with all of them amicably.
Midfielder Richard Oxby fired in an optimistic effort from 25 yards that flew just over the bar with six minutes left, before substitute Calvin Poku the best chance of the game to get his side the goal their efforts deserved.
The striker found himself free from six yards from a whipped in corner, only to get too much on his downward header with it bouncing into the ground and just over.
This proved to be their last attempt at goal as they finally succumbed to Wroxham’s stout defence, with Gordon sealing the win in emphatic style in the final minute of the game after Ben Lewis’ superb 60 yard run, lacing home into the top corner from six yards to continue Wroxham’s fine start to the season.
