The Yachtsmen Vs The Doughboys

Wroxham 1-0 Wellingborough Town (AET)

16-year-old defender Travis Dodsworth grabs extra-time winner as the Yachtsmen progress into the 4th round of the FA Trophy with victory over Wellingborough Town.
The Yachtsmen came into the game on the back of 3 consecutive wins and started the game with the intention of extending that straight from the off. Holt had a chance with only a minute on the clock, but his powerful drive went the wrong side of the post.
Sutton in the Wroxham goal had to be awake from a ball over the top from Wellingborough on 11 minutes, but he rushed out and cleared the ball out for a throw-in. Wellingborough had a good chance on 19 minutes when Holt fouled his man on the edge of the box to the right, however, Matt Long struck the ball well over the Wroxham crossbar.
A Wroxham free-kick was launched into the box only for Chris Skipper to miss from close range after Holt’s flick, but he was in an offside position.
The best chance of the first half came when Holt drilled a ball across, before it rebounded to Timmy Henry who fired over.
A slow start to the second half as the match became scrappy as both sides looked for the goal that would break the deadlock.
Wellingborough had a long-range effort on 60 minutes very well turned over. Miles had a superb chance on 65 minutes when the ball broke to him after a long ball over the top, but a heavy touch takes him wide of the goal and his effort ripples the side netting.
Holt had yet another good effort on 77 minutes when the former Norwich man got onto the end of a deep cross into the box but couldn’t get his effort on target. Then came the biggest moment in the game with only 5 minutes left in the match, when the Wellingborough man fouled Skipper. Holt was given responsibility with the penalty, but the Yachtmen’s striker blazed his penalty horribly over the middle of the crossbar.
With the whistle blown for full-time Wroxham would feel frustrated at being unable to break the stubborn defence and wonder if they would be made to pay for their missed chances.

With extra-time underway it took all of 5 minutes for young defender Dodsworth to break the deadlock, he tricked his way into the box and beat Greatorex in the Wellingborough net from a tight angle. With the Yachtsmen finally deservedly ahead, they had multiple opportunities to make their spot in the next round safe.
Influential substitute Jeremiah Dasalou was causing Wellingborough all sorts of problems with his pace and athleticism, he had the best chance in the rest of the match when the ball fell to him only a few yards out, but the Wellingborough keeper got down well to deny him.
After 120 minutes the Yachtsmen’s place in the next round was sealed, leading to amazing scenes with the fans after the match. Attentions now turn back to the league with a trip to Godmanchester Rovers.
