Tom Wardle reports from Trafford Park:
Elliot Pride started in goal for the Yachtsmen, and the defence saw 1 change from the last game against Barkingside as Daniel Foreman was replaced by Jackson Ramm who went in at right back. Ramm was joined by Andy Howell, Matt Halliday and Lewis Sturman. David Hinton and Stephen Taylor started in front of the back four, Jack Garrod started on the right hand side of midfield, and Seamus Kelleher was replaced by Jamie Forshaw on the left hand side. Michael Sommerfield started just behind Nathan Stone, who played upfront.
The Yachtsmen started the Norfolk Senior cup tie against Kings Lynn town Reserves much the better side. In the opening few minutes of the game, Jack Garrod’s pass to Jamie Forshaw on the left hand side saw the ball crossed into the back post, but was cleared by the Linnets defender. The home side didn’t have to wait long to go ahead, as a run from Jack Garrod down the right hand side saw the ball crossed in, Nathan Stone then stepped over the ball which fooled the defender and allowed Jamie Forshaw to stroke home from close range to give Wroxham a much needed lift.
Elliot Pride was then called into action, as a good move down the left hand side for Kings Lynn saw a cross into the box met by the foot of White, as he forced Pride into a magnificent save to keep the scores level. The ball then fell for Jamie Forshaw in the Linnets box, but the tracking back from the Lynn defence put Forshaw off as he put the ball agonisingly close to the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Wroxham then showed their quality by playing some tiki-taka football. Nathan Stone eased past 2 players before playing the ball through the Linnets defence to Michael Sommerfield who chipped the ball over the visitors centre back and was met by Jack Garrod whose shot was brilliantly saved lowdown to the keepers left.
Nearing the end of the first half, the Yachtsmen were forced into their first change of the game, as Andy Howell’s last ditch challenge saw him pick up a horrible injury and made way for Ollie Ebbage who came on at centre back.
The young Linnets started the second half much better as Elliot Pride was called into action within the first 5 minutes. White was through on goal, but his shot was palmed away by Pride and the ball went out to safety. Zielonka then had a replica of the chance but again failed to convert as the legs of Pride saved the Yachtsmen on this occasion. However Pride’s best effort 5 minutes later wasn’t enough to stop the Linnets from equalising. A long free kick fell for Edge in the box, the forward took a touch and then placed the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
The Linnets keeper then came out and cleared a ball on the left hand side, out of the edge of the box, his clearance however was brought down by Stephen Taylor on the half way line. Taylor then tried an audacious effort but failed to keep the ball on target as the ball rolled out for a goal kick. Nathan Stone then had the ball in the net from close range following a magnificent cross in from Jamie Forshaw. However the powerful forward was ruled offside and the goal didn’t stand. The Linnets had the last chance of normal time to grab a late goal, as a shot from Edge was pulled wide left of the goal and the game went into extra time.
The first chance of extra time came when Jamie Forshaw won a free kick on the edge of the box. Michael Sommerfield stepped up and curled the ball around the wall and looked as though it was creeping into the bottom right corner, but Street got across and got his fingertips to the ball and pushed it around the post. With a minute to go before the end of the first half of extra time Kings Lynn found themselves a goal up as a counter attack saw a teasing cross put in the net by Edge to make the score 1-2.
The second half was very frustrating for the Yachtsmen, as the visitors had the majority of possession, although both Jamie Forshaw and Nathan Stone tested Street in goal for the away side, but they never really troubled him. The referee then blew his whistle as Kings Lynn Town reserves progressed to the next round to play Dereham Town.
