A much improved performance from the Yachtsmen saw them come out on top in a game against a spirited Beccles Town. Although it was only a single goal victory, the margin would have been larger had it not been for the heroics of the homeside goalkeeper Daniel Cable. On a number of occasions, he stood tall against the Wroxham forward line. He was eventually beaten by a slick move finished by Jamie Forshaw with a strong volley.
Wroxham Manager Stu Larter was back in the dug-out for tonight's fixture and his starting line-up had a stronger feel to that seen at Yarmouth on Saturday. With captain Andy Howell sitting this one out, Larter brought in youngster Mac Gee at centre-half. The youngster had an excellent game at the back and put in a confident performance.
The game's first real chance feel to the Yachtsmen in the 6th minute. A strong run down the right and low cross by Jack Garrod was met with a deft flick goalwards by Nathan Stone. Cable was beaten only for the ball to hit the inside of the post and back into his arms with all expecting to see the ball nestling in the net. Stone was putting himself about in the area causing problems for the Beccles defenders with chances being supplied by Danny Beaumont and Jordan King. The possession and play was almost completely going the Yachtsmen's way. Chances falling for Garrod, Matt Halliday and Forshaw. Beaumont was then played through by KIng, however Cable again was bravely out to meet the forward and blocked with his legs. The half drew to a close with a couple of long distance shots by David Hinton. Again Cable was the Beccles saviour as he made excellent saves. The one time he was beaten by Forshaw, a defender got back to clear off the line.
The second-half followed a similar pattern to the first with Wroxham having plenty of possession and neat passing along with pressure on the Beccles goal. Alan Remblance did eventually test Elliot Pride for the home side as did Harry Booker with the keeper making a smart block with his feet.
In the 53rd minute Wroxham had the ball in the Beccles net from Forshaw however the referee decided to disallow it some seconds later as Cable had crashed into Danny Rogers in the build-up. A decision that bemused the Yachtsmen support. It wasn't long however before Forshaw eventually gained his reward as he volleyed home what turned out to be the winner on the night. A great ball out wide by captain Hinton to Garrod. His cross was pinpoint onto Forshaw's foot and the ball was despatched into the net. Wroxham tried hard to add to their goal and continued to dominate the remainder of the game. There was one moment late on for the Beccles support to cheer although it proved premature as the ball had actually dropped behind Pride's crossbar.
The performance was much better than Saturday at Yarmouth and is a confidence-builder .Wroxham now move on to the start of the League season where they begin their campaign as visitors to Tilbury this coming weekend.
