Yachtsmen safely into Quarter Final

Yachtsmen safely into Quarter Final

Chris Green26 Nov 2014 - 15:16

Wroxham cruised to the Quarter Final of the Norfolk Senior Cup with a 5-0 victory over Swaffham Town.

The leading scorers in Non League Steps 1-5 made light work of adding to their goal tally with two in the first half including a screamer from Nathan Stone and a penalty for Jack Garrod who followed up with another goal in the second half and two late efforts from Stone and Jordon Attree.
Wroxham started off with a hit on sight approach but Nathan Stone’s strike was off target. Swaffham gained the first corner as they attempted to gain a foothold against their higher ranked opponents but it came to nothing.
Then Stone laced onto a through ball and got round the keeper but was forced wide and his shot from an acute angle veered past the far post.
Stone was looking particularly lively and it was no surprise when he gave the Yachtsmen the lead on 13 minutes. He found space just outside the area to hit a left foot shot into the top corner before the keeper could even move.
Swaffham had a couple of chances but shots were blocked by a solid defence without troubling Elliott Pride.
The Yachtsmen increased their lead on 19 minutes when Jack Garrod raced into the penalty area and was brought down by the Swaffham ‘keeper. Although the Wroxham player may have lost control of the ball, referee Turner had no hesitation in pointing to the spot with Garrod dusting himself down and sending his spot kick into the bottom corner.
Although Wroxham now had control of the game, Swaffham had a clear chance to pull one back but Joe Woods was leaning back shot over from close range.
As the half wore on, Swaffham were doing a lot of pressing forward without causing any real problems for the Wroxham defence.
The visitors had a good chance to increase their lead shortly before half-time when Remy Gordon broke away but his final shot missed the target when he really ought to have done better.

Wroxham started the second half with Gordon prominent down the left and twice he got into a good position but his final cross was wayward. More good work by Stone set up Danny White who shot wide. Jordan King came on soon after to replace White.
Elliott Pride made an excellent save to deny Swaffham sub Dylan Edge and from this, The Yachtsmen broke away swiftly to score their third on 65 minutes. The ball reached Jack Garrod on the right and he finished off with a lovely strike across the ‘keeper into the far corner.
Pride again pulled off another good save standing up to Edge as the Swaffham player was unable to convert.
Wroxham made further changes bringing on Jordan Attree for Jamie Forshaw and Ben Price replacing Andy Howell as the result was in the bag. However Pride still had to be on his toes to stop a stinging shot from Alex Vincent. At the other end, the Swaffham ‘keeper pulled off a brilliant save from King and Garrod missed a gilt edge chance to make it four from six yards out.
Wroxham finally imposed themselves with two late goals. Stone headed home on Gordon’s cross on 87 minutes and Jordan Attree made it five with a low drive from 15 yards just before the final whistle.
