Birchall Hits Double Figures As Women Overcome Borough

With almost a full-strength squad to choose from, the hosts took the lead after just 24 seconds. Birchall feeding the ball to Holloway whose cross was converted by Bygrave after a shot had been blocked by the away defence.

Wroxham then scored two goals in two minutes, with Birchall firing home a threaded ball past the Borough defence by Rowland, before completing her brace turning in Holloway’s cross to give the hosts a 3-0 lead after just 8 minutes.

Despite the home teams dominance, the first real attack from Haringey saw Bell rush out of the Wroxham goal, bringing down the away striker just outside of the penalty area and was fortunate to get just a caution. From the free-kick, Bell comfortably saved.

The hosts increased their lead in the 19th minute, with Birchall tapping home after Larkins shot had been parried by the keeper and it was 5-0 a minute later, with Holloway scoring after receiving the ball from a quick throw-in.

It was one-way traffic with Wroxham overrunning their visitors. Leach scored a sixth goal and Birchall was denied by a fine save by the Borough keeper, before Parker forced the ball home after a shot from Holloway’s corner was blocked.

The visitors were struggling to contend with the pace of the hosts attacks and Birchall raced past the flat back four to increase the lead, then scored another two goals with similar moves in the space of three minutes.

It was 11-0 five minutes before half-time with Birchall scoring her seventh goal off the post from a Cooper cross before the hosts brought on all their substitutes as they completely dominated proceedings.

There was no let up in Wroxham’s intensity after the break and Bygrave had a long shot well saved by the keeper, before seeing another shot pushed around the post, Holloway’s corner hit the bar before going out for a goal-kick.

It took 15 minutes for the hosts to increase their lead. Rowland fed Cooper, whose shot was saved, but Kindred was on hand to score the rebound. Two minutes later, Larkins was allowed to run from defence unchallenged to the edge of the penalty-area before firing home past the helpless keeper to give Wroxham a 13-0 lead.

Two goals in two minutes followed with Birchall firing home after a Rowland chipped the ball over the defence, then Birchall turned provider, allowing Bullard to side foot the ball into the net from her cross.

Both Bygrave and Birchall had shots well saved by the away keeper as the hosts continued to push forward and a long ball was headed on by Bygrave to Birchall to convert, then Birchall headed home a Larkins cross for her tenth goal of the game, after good work from Bygrave.

Brister made it 18-0 turning home a Larkins cross, before Leach finish off the scoring with a neat finish at the near post to complete the rout. Credit must be given to Haringey who never gave up and especially to their keeper who made some excellent saves.
