Wroxham vs Norwich City XI

Wroxham Insider24 Jul 2012 - 21:22

Testimonial Match to help raise money for Addenbrookes Charitable Trust, in memory of Wroxham’s goalkeeper Liam Still.

Wroxham will host a Norwich City XI at Trafford Park on Wednesday 1 August (KO 7.45pm).

All money raised on the night will be donated to Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (NCCU) in memory of Wroxham’s goalkeeper Liam Still who was tragically killed in a car accident in May.

The match is actually the Testimonial Match to celebrate the career of Wroxham stalwart Gavin Pauling, 40, who has played for the Yachtsman for over 20 years.

Gavin Pauling joined Wroxham from Norwich City, where he was a full time apprentice and has since gone on to win numerous accolades with the regions most successful non-league club, including a Wembley appearance at the ripe old age of 38.

Normally proceeds of a testimonial match are given to the player the match is held in honour for, but Gavin is donating all funds to Addenbrooke's Hospital.

“It's a massive honour and a great privilege for me to have this testimonial game," he said.

"More importantly the evening will raise funds for equipment at the Addenbrooke’s Hospital unit where Liam was treated."

The entertainment won’t just be on the pitch.

From 6.45pm Radio Norfolk’s Nick Bowler will host a Q&A session with a number of ex-Canary stars including Scott Howie and Dale Gordon.

The audience will hear some untold stories from the 1993-94 UEFA Cup run and get the chance to ask questions about illustrious playing careers at Norwich City, Rangers, Scotland and England, as well as some of the secrets of the managers they have played for such as Newcastle’s Alan Pardew.

The evening will start at 5.45pm when Wroxham’s partnered club Old Catton juniors take to the Trafford Park turf for a one hour skills demonstration.

The main event will kick off at 7.45pm and will see a Norwich City under 21 team take on last season’s Eastern Counties Premier League Champions, Wroxham.

Before kick-off Liam’s parents will be presented with a Wroxham FC memento.
