Wroxham 0 Redbridge 1

Marc Bracha

Beaten at home by the Motormen

Sometimes, in football, you have to hold your hands up and admit that you were beaten by a better team on the day and that was the case on Saturday as Redbridge took the points in a 1-0 win, courtesy of a 78th minute goal from Charles Brown-Bampoe.

It has been two weeks since Wroxham had finished a game and the enforced break was much needed. The season has been unforgiving with constant injury troubles and a list of Tuesday night away games.

One change was made from the away game at Bowers & Pitsea with Billy Batch coming in to replace Alfie Bell. Ethan Flack made a welcome return to the bench although Charlie Moore missed out after taking a knock in the reserves fixture last Wednesday.

There was a moment of celebration ahead of kick off with Keith Baker receiving his Norfolk Football Association Volunteer of the Month award from the Chairman of the FA, Michael Banham.

After the opening exchanges produced some tidy football but little in the way of chances, the first opportunity fell to Harry Sparrow but his long range effort was comfortably dealt with by Lewis Greene, the Redbridge number one.

Soon after, Jordan King was caught in possession but he used all his experience and quality to redeem himself and make a fantastic block as Brown-Bampoe was just about to shoot goal wards.

Ryan Hawkins produced The Yachtsmen's finest moment of the first half when he outfoxed a Redbridge centre half but his shot was just wide of Greene's upright.

With the visitors starting to make the most of the running and Wroxham defending well, Brown-Bampoe and Kark Kayembe both had efforts blocked before Aimee Keir brought a goalless first half to a close.

Hawkins had another self-created chance but this time fired over but, in truth, Redbridge were dominating large parts of the game and only a tremendous save from Luke Holt prevented Olamiji Ayoola heading the visitors in to the lead from close range.

Soon after substitute Ethan Flack's ball across the box evaded everybody, the goal the visitors had threatened, did arrive when Brown-Bampoe headed a cross from the left hand side into the bottom corner, giving Holt no chance.

Wroxham are back in action tomorrow night when Harleston Town visit the Ginger Pickle Arena in the Norfolk Senior Cup, kick off 7:45.
