On a cold Tuesday night the Yachtsmen faced the Seasiders from Felixstowe. Two teams currently at different ends of Isthmian League North, and a severe test for Jordan Southgate returning to manage Wroxham following the departure of Matt Halliday after last Saturday’s goalless draw against Witham Town.
The Wroxham team saw Robbie Linford move back into defence and Shaun Taylor restored to the midfield.
In the 48 hours since his appointment, Jordan Southgate wasted no time, with the signing of Asa McGeachy, a creative midfield player from Harleston Town. He took his place on the Yachtsmen bench.
It was a remarkable first half that saw Wroxham establish a two goal lead, through Craig Parker and Ryan Hawkins, but in fairness they could have been ahead by four goals had all their chances been converted.
The Suffolk team did not get a foothold in the game until the 86th minute when they pulled a goal back, and as Wroxham tired Felixstowe pressed for an equaliser, that eventually came in additional time.
There was no dream ending, but after the game the Wroxham manager admitted that, before the game, he would have settled for a point against a strong Felixstowe team.
However the past week has shown that this Wroxham squad can compete against the better teams in the league, and with 26 league games still to be played, if this week’s performances can be replicated, there is time for the Yachtsmen to climb to safety by the New Year.
