Late drama away to Hashtag

Late drama away to Hashtag

Marc Bracha

A point on the road

Hashtag United 2 Wroxham 2

One thing is for certain, under the circumstances this was a draw that felt like a win.

Away from home against the league leaders, the Yachtsmen showed incredible character to deal with more adversity.

Following the unsuccessful appeal against Sammy Johnson’ red card in the Gorleston game, the influential midfielder missed the first of a three match ban.

Ben Lewis returned to the side and with Ryan Hawkins only fit enough to start on the bench, Louis Simmons was called into the starting line up for his second appearance of the season.

Both keepers had little to do in the first half of a game played at a frantic pace.

Set pieces provided the best chances for both sides who retreated to the dressing rooms with the score at 0-0 after 45 minutes.

The deadlock was broken just before the hour mark when Jaden Crowhurst’s strike from the edge of the box deflected past Coombe.

The game was end to end, played at breathtaking speed and Ryan Gray was unfortunate to see his effort bounce over after good work by Ben Lewis.

Within sixty seconds, Wroxham were level when Simmons curled home a beauty from the edge of the box.

It was no more than they deserved and within three minutes, Lewis saw a header flash wide of the upright and Alfie Bell tested the keeper from a free kick.

Coombe made a superb save to keep out a header from six yards but minutes later, he was down after a collision in the area following a corner.

With nine minutes left, the hosts were back in front when a cross from the right was volleyed home by Jason Ring.

Coombe was called into action soon after and clearly struggling from the collison, he was forced to leave the field to be replaced between the sticks by striker, Ryan Hawkins.

With Wroxham chasing an equaliser and Hashtag looking to win it, Simmons fired over from close range and Hawkins made a fine save with his feet.

The referee, Matthew Rowling signalled nine minutes of injury time and Hawkins came racing out of his goal to deny the home side.

With the clock ticking down, Wroxham won a throw in deep inside the Hashtag half. Ben Lewis launched the ball into the area, Simmons flicked it on and substitute Charlie Moore was on hand to head a dramatic equaliser.

From the kick off, the hosts piled forward and Hawkins was the coolest man in London watching the ball bounce off the upright.

The goal kick was the final act of a pulsating game with Southgate’s men returning to Norfolk with a valuable point.
