At the start of the season, Wroxham manager Jordan Southgate delivered a clear message to his players. Standards needed to be set early, and he wanted them to be competitive, playing with intensity and personality.

The Isthmian League Division One North table shows that the players have taken that message on board. Wroxham sits second in the table and are the league’s form team.

Grays Athletic arrived in Norfolk yesterday full of confidence after beating Redbridge but for large parts of the game they were outfought and outclassed as The Yachtsmen recorded an emphatic 3-0 win to make it five consecutive league victories.

Following the midweek win at Canvey Island, Southgate made one change to his starting line up with Tom Coombe returning between the sticks to replace Ethan Binnie.

Shaun Taylor and Billy Batch who were both absent at Canvey returned to the squad and named on the bench.

Wroxham had the first chance of the game when Ryan Hawkins dragged his shot wide of Daniel Sambridge’s goal after just two minutes.

Grays were lively in the first half hour with the impressive Gael Kaliba causing problems and Coombe was called on to make a smart save after 24 minutes when he pushed away a powerful effort.

With the game heading to the interval, Josh Hazell had his name taken by referee, Aimee Kier and in first half injury time Wroxham won a corner. The ball was delivered from the right and eventually fell to captain, Jordan King who hammered it into the net from close range to give his side the lead.

King followed Hazell into the book five minutes into the second half and 11 minutes later, it was 2-0.

The lively Lucas Densley capitalised on a loose ball just seconds after a Grays corner. He danced past his man, raced clear on goal and played in Ryan Hawkins who fired a shot into the bottom corner to score for the fourth game running.

Ryan Gray replaced Hawkins on the hour and just after Coombe had made another smart save, Alfie Bell received a yellow card.

With Wroxham in control, Southgate brought on Taylor for Sparrow after 70 minutes and Batch replaced Bell five minutes later.

Sammy Johnson’s final involvement was a header just wide, before being taken off for Isaac Jobling with eight minutes remaining. Charlie Moore also came on to replace Ryan John.

With injury time looming, Densley in acres of space played a ball through to Jobling who beat the offside trap to run clear and finish calmly for his first goal in Wroxham colours. It was a great moment for the young striker and the icing on the cake to round off a perfect afternoon.
