If you can't win, don't lose

Wroxham held at home by Little Oakley

The first ever meeting between Wroxham and Little Oakley ended with a share of the spoils and a saying often used in football was evident, "If you can't win, don't lose".

Ahead of the game, Tom Coombe, injured at Hashtag United last Tuesday, was declared unfit to play so Jordan Southgate handed a debut to the former Lowestoft Town goalkeeper, Luke Holt who had signed for the club late on Thursday with approval being granted the following morning. A further conundrum had to be solved with Lucas Densley being declared unavailable due to work commitments.

Billy Batch was brought in to the side for his full league debut with Alfie Ball moving into the midfield.

Wroxham started the game well and looked lively. Inside the first minute, Ryan Gray saw his effort strike the foot of the post and bounce wide and nine minutes later, Ryan Hawkins shot wide from a narrow angle.

With the game 17 minutes old, the Yachtsmen got the reward that they deserved when, after some impressive build up play, Alfie Bell scored with a neat finish for his first goal for the club.

That sparked the visitors into life and good defending by Josh Hazell prevented an instant equaliser.

With the half drawing to a close, Ryan Gray was treated for a cut to his arm and Bell had his name taken by referee Liam Botten.

The visitors made a change at half-time with Luke Hipkin replacing Kieran Williams and within nine minutes of the second half they came within inches of an equaliser when a shot from close range smashed against Holt's cross bar.

The debutant custodian was alert minutes later when he came out of his goal to charge down a shot and with Wroxham struggling to get a hold of the game, Southgate introduced Harry Sparrow in place of Gray.

Within three minutes of Ryan Forbes coming on for Alfie Bell, Little Oakley found the equaliser when substitute Evan Collard swept in from close range. In truth, it was a goal they deserved.

With Forbes looking lively and Charlie Moore being introduced, Wroxham found another gear and went in search of a winner but the visiting goalkeeper, James Askew was never troubled.

When five minutes of time added on came to an end, and both sides settling for a point, attentions now turn to AFC Sudbury away on Tuesday night.
