New Salamis 1 Wroxham 2

On the longest away trip of the season Wroxham travelled to Tottenham to play New Salamis on Friday evening, and came away with all three points courtesy of a brace of goals from striker , Ryan Hawkins.

The home side started the stronger, while the Yachtsmen were coming to terms with playing on a 3G pitch that made long passes difficult, the home team fashioned a number of chances .However Billy Johnson in Wroxham's goal made several fine saves to keep the game goalless .

However in the 29th minute the deadlock was broken. Joao Rangel operating on the right wing gave the Salamis defence a torrid evening, and it was his run and cross that set up Ryan Hawkins for the opening goal. Rangel got to the by-line and laid the ball back to Hawkins and the striker struck a firm low shot past the Salamis keeper.

It remained 0-1 till half time. The second half mirrored the first and again it was good combination play down the right between Rangel and Rio Abodunde that created Wroxham's second goal on the hour mark. The cross was whipped in and Hawkins was on hand to tap in from close range.

Salamis mounted a series of attacks but the Yachtsmen's defence shielded by Jordan King and Harley Black in midfield appeared to have the game sown up until the 86th minute.
Salamis substitute , Albert Adu won the ball on the left cut inside and unleashed a fierce shot into the Yachtsmen's net.

What happened next was extraordinary. Johnson in Wroxham's goal retrieved the ball from inside the net. Adu attempted to wrestle the ball from his grasp. As the two men tugged at the ball , an incident occurred. The referee moved in and showed no hesitation in showing Adu a red card.

Down to ten men, Salamis threw everyone forward, including their keeper, in the hope of snatching a late gasp equaliser but Wroxham's defence stood firm and at the final whistle,
the Yachtsmen had completed 'the double' over their North London opponents.
