Halliday Checks In

Wroxham Insider29 May 2012 - 18:15

Central defender Matt Halliday has become Wroxham's first signing of the close season from Lowestoft Town.

With first team opportunities limited at Crown Meadow Halliday, 25, has opted for a move to the Yachtsmen in a bid for regular first team football providing stern competition for the likes of Graham Challen and Josh Carus.

The former Norwich City professional played for Lowestoft during their most successful spell, during which time they won the Ryman League North and had two successive play-off heartaches in the Ryman Premier League.

It's that experience that made manager David Batch swoop for Halliday's services as Wroxham prepare for their first ever season in Ryman League North next season.

"Matt is young enough, hungry enough, local enough with good quality and versatility. He is the sort of signing we want to bring into the club as he has the experience of playing at places where we will be going next season," said Batch.

However, the Wroxham chief has warned his new signing he will not be guaranteed a first team place and will have to work hard over the pre-season schedule.

Batch said: "He will come here and like everyone else, will have to fight for his place.

"Signing from a club higher in the pyramid doesn’t mean a player should take his foot off the gas, and I want him putting more effort into becoming a really good player than he has ever done before.

"I am certain our training regime will help him to do this, and he will join us for our second close season training event this week."

This is Halliday's second spell at Trafford Park having played 11 games for Wroxham during the 2008/2009 season.
