Wroxham arrived in Essex with aspirations to return to Norfolk with the three points that would’ve sent them top of the league.

However, they endured a frustrating afternoon.

With Ben Lewis unavailable, Jordan Southgate brought Ryan Gray in and Shaun Taylor replaced Harry Sparrow.

Wroxham fell behind after a quarter of an hour when Jordan Elongo headed in after the ball was flicked on.

With the pitch restricting the Yachtsmens free flowing football, Witham were happy to employ the long balls tactics and time after time, John, Jordan King or Josh Hazell were there to head balls clear that were dropping out of the sky.

King went close to equalising but the teams headed to the dressing rooms seperated by Elongo’s goal.

As the hour marked approached, substitutes Harry Sparrow, Billy Batch and Charlie Moore were ready to enter the field but Southgate’s mind was changed when Hazell headed the ball across the face of the goal and Taylor was on hand to turn it in for his first of the season.

With Wroxham pushing for a second, Moore, who had replaced Gray, saw his effort blocked and Hawkins had the ball in the net only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.

With 15 minutes left, proven scorer Sam Bantick won the game with a spectacular strike from distance.

Attention turns to Tuesday night when Wroxham travel to Redbridge to play Hashtag in what should be a thrilling encounter.
