Wroxham 3 New Salamis 0

Wroxham put two recent league defeats behind them when they produced a commanding performance to defeat a lack lustre New Salamis team at Trafford Park last night.

What will be particular pleasing for the coaching staff was that this performance was accomplished with the club’s Under 18s keeper, George Potter in goal, and without regular centre back Harvey Peters, missing with a foot injury. In his place, James Everett, gave a commanding performance, and was well deserving of his man of the match award.

The Yachtsmen went ahead on 18 minutes, Ryan Miles operating predominantly on the left, chased what appeared to be a lost cause, however the striker reached the ball & managed to cross into the goal area where midfield player, Shaun Taylor, met it first time with a fierce drive that flashed into the goal from 12yards.

Wroxham might well have gone further ahead, both Jordan King and Ryan Miles had good chances but both failed to test the keeper with headers. On 28th minutes the visitors were further hampered when they were reduced to ten men following a straight red card issued for a dangerous challenge.

Wroxham cemented their grips on the game early in the second half when from a Travis Dodsworth corner, Ryan Miles headed home at the near post.

The visitors produced one meaningful chance in 90 minutes, they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, but the resulting shot was parried to safety by George Potter. Not surprisingly Jordan Southgate introduced substitutes and Ryan Hawkins who replaced Josh Harvey up front, made it 3-0 with an effort, that will not feature on the goalkeeper’s highlight reel.

The result sees the Yachtsmen move into 12th place in the league table, ahead of a busy programme prior to and during the Easter weekend.
